The Gates Cambridge Scholarship Program was established in October 2000 with a $210 million gift from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to the University of Cambridge. This is the largest single donation ever made to a UK university.
Each year Gates Cambridge awards approximately 80 full scholarships to outstanding non-UK applicants for postgraduate studies in all subjects offered at Cambridge University. About two-thirds of these awards are awarded to graduate students, with about 25 awards available in US rounds and about 55 awards in international rounds.
Gates Cambridge's mission is to build a global network of future leaders committed to improving the lives of others. Its purpose is to accomplish this mission by selecting outstanding academics, providing financial and non-financial support at the world's leading universities, and fostering community building in Cambridge and beyond.
